AR Painting Performances

AR Painting Performances

Developed with the arts-tech collective artrio, this research explores live, collaborative Mixed and Augmented Reality (MR/AR) performance by merging traditional somatic practices—such as Tai Chi, Chinese calligraphy, and land art—with spatial computing. The project was featured in over 20 performances, at recognized through multiple awards and distinctions, including an iF design award, and finalist at the Lumen Prize 2026. The project introduces a real-time, multi-user performance system that synchronizes live 3D drawing across co-located performers while engaging audiences through multimodal displays—combining shared stage projections, mobile AR, and XR headsets. We address the lack of physical resistance in mid-air interaction through custom haptic systems that bring tangible feedback to virtual creation.

Sea, Sense, and Melody

Sea, Sense, and Melody

Sea, sense and melody is a public art project that transforms HKUST’s environmental data into a unique interactive experience. It aims to use IOT sensors to capture real-time environmental data—such as sea breezes and humidity—and translate them into site-specific poetic narratives, music, and visuals. This project’s uniqueness lies in its multidisciplinary approach to address social sharing emotion, by combining AI technology, art, and affective computing. This project encourages mindfulness, emotional well-being, and ecological awareness—paving the way for smarter, sustainable campuses of the future.
